Enough!

Coming from a long time Roger McGuinn fan starting way back in my youth this album is just plain horrible. McGuinn has done wonderful things for the preservation of folk music, but as a fan I would really like something that excites me. I recently downloaded "The Deep Dark Woods", a Canadian group. Take a listen, this is what Roger McGuinn should be doing. His last great effort was "One More Cup of Coffee" with Calexico. Lets hope that that was not his truely last great effort. The man is an icon in R&R but has somehow decided not to accept that role.

Sea-Faring Songs

It would seem that Roger McGuinn has always had a fascination with old folk ballads and particularly sea shanties, the songs of a time long ago when three mast ships sailed the seas. Don't look for a "hit" among these tunes. Rather, listen to the lyrics of loss and loneliness and give McGuinn some credit for taking the time to memorialize so many timeless tunes. Not highly produced, but make no mistake, McGuinn displays his amazing guitar and banjo skills throughout. Thanks to Roger!

After touring with the Limelighters, in 1960 he signed on as an accompanist with the Chad Mitchell Trio, appearing...
