Another fine addition to the extant body of WWII radio recordings

The release of the album "Heimat deine Sterne, Vol. 4: Lili Marleen und der Soldatensender Belgrad" offers a unique and historically important addition to the existing body of commercially available radio recordings from the Second World War. Not only does this album make German radio broadcasts available to those interested in the war, thus complementing the commercially available wartime broadcasts of the Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band and other Allied radio programming, but also establishes through the interviews with H. R. Fritsche, R. Kistenmacher, Hans Leip and Norbert Schulze, and further through the front-line transcripts of war correspondent G. Böhnert, a proper frame of reference for the broadcasts of Soldatensender Belgrad. Underscoring this context is the inclusion of various versions of Lili Marleen, the song sung by both Geman and Commonwealth troops in North Africa. The end result is a deeper and broader understanding of the Second World War through a medium that traditionally has not been well covered in the historiography of the war.
