iTunes Review

Nelly’s schoolyard rhymes are delivered with the skill and verve of a seasoned entertainer. The knowing entendres of “Thicky Thicky Girl” and “Ride With Me” trade on the type of joyously leering come-ons that have been an essential component of R&B since its inception. A truly accomplished debut, Country Grammar cloaks its old school R&B roots in enticing pop production and a contemporary lyrical sensibility.

Customer Reviews

Judging by the anonymous review calling "Country Grammar" a lullaby, hip-hop has finally bought the farm, thanks to mainstream rap. This album was a landmark for hip-hop, and one of the best rap albums in recent years. Country Grammar tops all of Nelly's other albums. In fact, everything past this one sucks. Why? Because in the world of MTV and BET rap (there's no difference between the two channels, they're owned by the same company), "rap" apparently means an overproduced song with unintelligent lyrics that are limited to the scope of: killing someone, having huge rims on your car, or degrading women. Nelly included, more than ever now. However, his debut album was something different: it set him apart in style and song structure, with original lyrics and simple but still imaginative beats to back him up. Sure, there are still songs about sex and the like (see: "Thicky Thick Girl") but it's not the constant barrage of downright embarrassing songs he does nowadays (see: "Shake Ya Tailfeathers," "Flap Your Wings," et all). To me, this will always be the only true Nelly album. Everything else is just processed-pop, no different from Ashlee Simpson.

Definately Nelly's Best

This is by far Nelly's best album. every song on here from Batter Up to Luven Me is great. The only thing I didn't like is that the album wasn't longer

Best Album Ever

This is best album I own. I love it. Nelly is my favorite artist, and this will forever be his masterpiece. This is the album that made a me rap fan. Although Nelly becomes more mainstream oreinted later in his career,(Dilemma,Over and Over Again) this is a real rap album. His hooks are remakabley catchey. This album made Nelly a superstar, and it made St. Lunatics a noteable group as well. This album produced 3 world famous rap classics(country Grammar,Ride Wit me, and E.I.) Nelly keeps it real on this album.

Born: November 2, 1974 in St. Louis, MO

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '00s, '10s

A savvy pop-rapper with crossover appeal, Nelly seemed like a novelty when he first debuted in 2000 with "Country Grammar (Hot...)," yet he was no one-hit wonder, consistently returning to the pop charts with smash hits like "Hot in Herre," "Grillz," and "Dilemma." His universality was partly rooted in his hometown -- the Gateway City, officially known as St. Louis, Missouri -- which set him apart from all of the prevailing rap styles of his time. He wasn't from the East or West Coast, nor was he...
