When listening to this album, remember that it was recorded seven years previously when Muldrow was just 17 years old. When that seeps in, the contents of this album are astounding. No, this isn't the astral-traveling, intense and exploratory, far-reaching Muldrow of Olesi, Sagala, and Umsindo. The title is a telling one — this is "early" Muldrow as a teen, at the dawn of the new millennium, spinning her own version of the new-soul music that was in vogue back then. Songs like "Never a Day in Vain" and "Run Away" are the answer to the question "What if, before Georgia loaded up her spaceship with all her instruments and equipment to blast off to another galaxy, she made a Dwele album?" Since Muldrow is one of the most daring and important (albeit underappreciated) artists of her time, this revealing look into her "early" work is essential. Tunes such as "Break You Down" show the artist developing her unique, patented, singular groove. It's an album that reveals her vocal influences, whether overt (Betty Carter on "Sunset") or subtle (Erykah Badu on "Keep It Real?"). And then there are tracks like "In Love Again" — one of those classic Georgia performances, one without a single vocal repeat and too many bridges to count — that sound like she locked herself in a closet for months with Chaka Khan on loop, only to emerge with her own voice and technique in full bloom on "Let It Go." It's fitting that "Let It Go" appears near the end of the album, right before "Gears (Sing It Again)," which is like a harbinger of things to come. For an artist who wasn't even a legal adult to write, sing, play, and produce virtually every sound on this album is astonishing on so many levels. But then again, this is Georgia we're talking about.

Aaaah.....(exhale) Georgia!

I love this organic and sweet like a tangerine to a child in summer. And even though it is fall, this album is ripe for picking. Georgia's last two albums were a rather spiritual challenge for those who might have been schooled as yet as to who she is as an artist...though they were brilliant. The cacophony of rhythms, sounds and beats may have scared some even....but who cares...Georgia is just the best she can be...she. She returns herself to us wholly with no features to mention, which I thought was refreshing. This album gives us the comfortable tones of Georgia's voice...not comfortable as in "p.c." but as in warm she remains true to herself indelibly. The music doesn't FEEL as synthesized (even if there are synthesized instruments) and brings one a natural ambience. Tunes I recommend? Never a Day in Vain, Break You Down, Alone With an Angel....well I guess I should say just buy the whole thang! lol :)

The missing link in her catalogue

This is the Muldrow record I have been wishing existed through which to better expose people to her now vast catalogue.

Muldrow is one of the most talented and expressive singers working today, but her albums have gotten progressively more complex and even her earliest records prove challenging to people looking for good music but struggling to get the radio R&B monkey off their back. "Early" is now that gateway.

This album is comprised of music that she did prior to all of the albums we know now but are only being released now, so we're talking about songs she did when she was, what, 19? Let me assure you that at 19 this artist was better than half the people with record deals right now. It's a more stripped down, mainstream affair than her later albums, but that just means we're treated to the Lauryn Hill/Chaka Khan/India record that we all waited for and never came. These songs have the seeds of her later work in them - the odd chord changes, the winding lyrics, the ear candy that makes her songs different evey time you hear them - but the groove is unmistakable. This record is basically a show of force that says, "I could do what you hear on the radio, and better, but I have a higher calling."

If you like soul music, get it. If you never heard of her before now this is a great record with which to get acquainted. If you're a fan, you should already have this and be wearing it out.

So just listening to the samples of each songs makes me want to go get the cd. When Georgia Anne Touches something it turns to gold soooooo anyone and everyone get this cd.

Georgia Anne Muldrow grew up in a musical home in Los Angeles, her father an instrument inventor for Eddie Harris and her mother, Rickie Byars, a singer with the Pharoah Sanders Ensemble and co-founder of Sound of Agape Rhythms. After relocating to New York, the young musician/producer/vocalist recorded seven songs for her 2005 self-released EP Worthnothings.
