iTunes Review

Earth, Wind & Fire redefined black pop music in the '70s, fusing R&B, rock, funk, soul, jazz, and disco into a fresh, exciting sound. This no-nonsense, 17-track collection gathers the very best of the band's 1974–81 heyday. From the soaring falsetto shiver of "September" and the ultra-tight harmonies of "Shining Star" to the dance-floor flash of "Boogie Wonderland" and the heartbroken balladry of Philip Bailey's quiet-storm showcase "After the Love Has Gone,” it's all here.

Still the best ever

On a whim I downloaded this album and it took my breath away. Sure, it was great listening to Earth Wind & Fire in the 70s -- they were musically perfect, their songs were funky and they offered relief from disco, though they reflected the times. Then, I "grew up." I fell for New Wave, then Grunge and Alternative, with a little Madonna thrown in. Fast forward 25 years. I hear them with a clear mind. How could I have lived for so long without this music in my life? Their songs are uplifting but not saccharine. The melodies are complex and masterfully orchestrated. What's more, they ROCK. If this music doesn't make you happy then you're not breathing.

Earth, Wind & Fire were one of the most musically accomplished, critically acclaimed, and commercially popular funk bands of the '70s. Conceived by drummer, bandleader, songwriter, kalimba player, and occasional vocalist Maurice White, EWF's all-encompassing musical vision used funk as its foundation, but also incorporated jazz, smooth soul, gospel, pop, rock & roll, psychedelia, blues, folk, African music, and, later on, disco. Lead singer Philip Bailey gave EWF an extra dimension with his talent...
