Album Review

Until Your Heart Stops continues and widens Cave-In's assault upon body and mind. The chugga-chugga chunks are still there, this time refined into escalating and edgy walls of sound that owe a large debt to Slayer. Newly present, however, are forays into psychedelia and noise. At times expansive and at other times dark and claustrophobic, these always aggressive ventures open new doors for Cave-In. When fused with the usual jarring assemblage of riffs, a bold and original heavy music is created. Perhaps the only band who has successfully tread similar ground is Neurosis. Until Your Heart Stops' production is a major force as well; the band's undertakings are captured and conveyed in a way that at times sound impossibly dense, balancing gut-stabbing bottom end with piercing highs. This is one key factor among many that burn away the hardcore framework through which Cave-In originally slipped.

Essential Metal

This album is loaded with some of the nastiest riffs and breakdowns. Very dynamic album as well. Great double guitar work, over all great sond structure and production.

A chaotic and devastating modern masterpiece.

This album is so dynamic, unique, relentless and compelling. I've been listening to it for years and I'm still finding new layers and textures within the music. Though absolutely crushing for most of the record's course- they manage to inter-splice these experimental and vast sounding melodic movements throughout. All and all the complete package- challenging but worth the effort you put into listening to it. It unfolds into a masterpiece the more you are able to digest and truly take it in. This is essential.

one of the Best Hardcore albums but itunes mixed up the tracks

Segue 1 is supposed to be by its self then it is supposed to be until your heart stops which has segue 2 at the end of it then its halo of flies which is by itself then it is supposed to be bottom feeder with segue 3 at the end of it

Alt metal outfit Cave In originated in 1995, in Methuen, MA, when Stephen Brodsky and Jay Frechette got the idea to start a band in the vein of some of their favorites: Failure, Unwound, Snapcase, etc. With Brodsky on guitar and Frechette's vocals, they added bassist Justin Matthes, guitarist Adam McGrath, and drummer John-Robert Conners, and recorded some early demos. Split 7"s with Gambit, Piebald, and Early Grace followed before Cave In got a chance for its own, courtesy of Hydra Head, which appeared...
