iTunes Review

This massive collection of b-sides, cover songs, Peel Sessions, remixes, and unreleased tracks tells the Soundgarden story from a fascinating angle. Though their studio albums were carefully crafted projects, Echo of Miles reveals the band’s looser side. Whether it’s songs that landed on compilations (like “Birth Ritual” for the Singles soundtrack and “Sub Pop Rock City” from Sub Pop 200) or their many amazing covers (like The Rolling Stones’ “Stray Cat Blues” and The Stooges’ “Search and Destroy”), Soundgarden were far ahead of their competition as the premier hard rock band of the late ‘80s and ’90s.

Delivered!

It should go without saying, fans of Soundgarden and/or that sweet 90's era "alternative" feel will greatly appreciate this release.

These tracks are loaded with the Soundgarden we love! Chunky, wailing Thayil guitars; bottom-ended by the reliable Ben Shepherd's bass riffs.. Then glued together with Matt Cameron's muscular drumming and powerful grooves. The bow on top is Chris Cornell's unmistakeable vocals, complete with his other-worldly octave-range.

Before my purchase last night, I had never even heard of "Karaoke," it's my new favorite. Good stuff!

Finally a Soundgarden B-Side Collection!

Some of my favorites by the band... Five stars!

iTunes Just Doesn't Get It...

I'll be glad when iTunes is either gone or significantly smarter. Don't buy this album here. Support SOUNDGARDEN and other artists by buying actual copies. Apple is ripping you off. In addition, there are just too many options out there these days. I doubt Apple will even post this considering the BS lie machine that is Apple HQ!

Formed: 1984 in Seattle, WA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '10s

Soundgarden made a place for heavy metal in alternative rock. Their fellow Seattle rockers Green River may have spearheaded the grunge sound, but they relied on noise rock in the vein of the Stooges. Similarly, Jane's Addiction were too fascinated with prog rock and performance art to appeal to a wide array of metal fans. Soundgarden, however, developed directly out of the grandiose blues-rock of Led Zeppelin and the sludgy, slow riffs of Black Sabbath. Which isn't to say they were a straight-ahead...
