EDITORS’ NOTES

Gone Is Gone count members of Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, and At the Drive-In among their ranks, and these gentlemen realize they're not exactly going to out-aggro their day jobs here. While "Gift" and "Ornament" bring the hot riffs, the most striking moments on their debut are atmospheric ballads such as "Dublin" and "Colourfade," which set aside the thrash to find Mastodon’s Troy Sanders offering up clean, seductive vocals atop reverb-smeared guitars.
