Album Review

This 10-track collection presents the songs and styles that have elevated Daniels from the ranks of steady, untouted musician to top-selling, acclaimed star. He's done light classical, pop/fusion, retro jazz and quasi-New Age material during his GRP tenure, and there are samples of each on the disc. Daniels is backed by acoustic trios and quartets, symphony orchestras, and even drum machines and DX7 synthesizers. While Daniels displays great facility and versatility, his solos have minimal intensity and excitement, even on longer pieces. As a result, the listener is never hooked by these songs, and they become impressive examples of technical acumen rather than tunes you'll remember.

He is also a dazzling (if underrated) tenor player. Daniels appeared at the 1957 Newport...
