Customer Reviews

They're getting better and much more interesting!

Saw Kaiser Chiefs tonight. They played six of the ten songs on this new release. They played:

The Factory Gates
Coming Home
Misery Company
Ruffians on Parade
Bows and Arrows
Cannons

It's a much grittier tone, I would imagine, on this release. "Bows and Arrows" was described as being what it's like being in a band. "Cannons" contains the lyric "It's gonna take a lot more cannons to be home by Christmas". What the exact context is, I'm not sure. Overtly political? A personal metaphor of life on the road? Don't know. The feeling I got was they are taking their song writing seriously. That doesn't mean they don't write a great crowd pleaser. The songs are the great, melodic anthems you would expect from Kaiser Chiefs. There is a maturity and depth that is satisfying to see from a band with some wear and wear under their belt. I would compare the new material to the music Roger Waters was writing around the "The Wall" and "The Final Cut", But much less alienating. The new songs sounded fantastic live. I can't wait to hear the actual studio versions!

Just a phenomenal listen

Simply can't stop listening to this one. My favorite track is 'Meanwhile Up In Heaven'. It is a beautifully written song with a soul-stirring chorus. Other highlights are 'Coming Home' and 'Bows and Arrows'. Overall, there is not a bad track on the album and if you're a fan of their previous releases, dive right into this one, because they've taken it to another level with the current release.

So very good

It's been 2 years since I listened to an album "cover to cover". I did it twice in a row with this one. Back with a vengeance, the Kaiser Chiefs new album is a must have. It's one of those albums where your favorite song changes by the day. Unequivocal two thumbs up.

Biography

Formed: 2003 in Leeds, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Specializing in a muscular and melodic blend of classic Brit-pop, post-punk, and new wave, the Kaiser Chiefs' blue-collar, pub-style take on indie rock managed to split the difference between timely and nostalgic. Comprised of vocalist Ricky Wilson, guitarist Andrew White, bassist Simon Rix, keyboardist Nick Baines, and drummer Nick Hodgson, Kaiser Chiefs resurrected the mod spirit of the Jam in "I Predict a Riot," a supercharged class-of-1977 power pop single that quickly electrified the British...
