EDITORS’ NOTES

Following A Hard Day's Night and a globe-trotting tour, Beatles For Sale debuted in 1964. The band's fourth album touches on two sides of the band's personality. The Beatles were exploring new musical and lyrical ideas as heard in the folk rock-tinged, poetic lyrics of "Eight Days a Week" and "I'll Follow the Sun." John Lennon provided a mixture of melancholy and melody on the opening tracks "No Reply" and "I'm a Loser." On the flip side, they were still knocking out fiery renditions of their favorite rock 'n' roll classics, such as "Rock and Roll Music" and "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby.”
