Customer Reviews

A remarkable album of energetic and sweet music played by supremely accomplished musician/composers

This is (as of early 2009) Lyon & Campbell's latest album and every track is a special treat, from the wonderful Eilidh on the Western Shore, through the masterful variations on Drowsey Maggie, to the hauntingly beautiful slower tunes, such as Travel Day. From the first time I heard them (at 2008 Celtic Colours), I've listened to something on this album almost every day - and I keep finding new delights as I listen more closely. Angus Lyon is a wizard on the accordian -- his playing is innovative and surprisingly fitting to the celtic foundation that inspires their music; Ruaridh Campbell's fiddle is a great match and he plays with great sensitivity. But it is as composers (and arrangers and producers, etc) that they reach new heights. I can't help smiling when I hear some of these tunes - there's so much delight and joy in them. As the reviewer said in The Herald (July 24, 2006) "It's an album full of invention, energy, musicality, subtlety, great ideas and the sheer joy of making music, which is stunning from the first track."
