Kuniko plays Reich right
A wonderful artist and player she is, this release is absolutely wonderfull and brings a really unique life to the pieces.
Phenomenal recording, worth it for converts and neophytes alike
Just bought the SACD of this; might not come through on iTunes, but this is an absolutely stunning recording. With the exception of 6 Marimbas, which seems to be only modestly altered from the composer's reworking of 6 Pianos, these are major new transcriptions/reworkings of pieces for other instruments. I'm not a fan of the steel percussion in Movements 1/2 of the Electric Counterpoint - sounds a bit too Caribbean at first. But the third movement is addictive, particularly when the bass comes in at 44 seconds. Overall this arrangement is preferable to the original with Pat Methenyl, which is a bit too Metheny for me.
Would recommend this to both the Reich addicts who buy every new release and those who are new to the composer.
Major issue is that 41 minutes for a 10-20 buck SACD/file is a bit short shrift.
