Album Review

With Supersexy Swingin' Sounds, White Zombie offer a collection of ten remixes of songs from Astro-Creep: 2000, plus a new mix of their cover of KC & the Sunshine Band's "I'm Your Boogie Man" (which was originally on the Crow: City of Angels soundtrack). Not quite as experimental or dance-oriented as they would like to be, White Zombie have always flirted with industrial and disco, but at their core they are a metal band, although one that reconfigures the kitschy pleasures of pop culture much in the vein of the Cramps and the B-52's. Supersexy Swingin' Sounds isn't a bad listen, but it seems like White Zombie are hopping on the bandwagon instead of carving out new camp territory of their own.

Where this album fits

Quick rundown. Metal, hard rock and industrial stems its inspiration from "i'm pissed off" or other similar violent attitudes. Any of the techno and electronic USUALLY stems from the inspiration of sex. White and Rob Zombie uses the inspiration of B horror movie flicks. In fact B fans will recognize alot of Zombie samples. B flicks traditionally have sexual content to make up for a thin plot. This naturally puts Zombie in the middle with simple grind rythims and easy to follow melodies. To take a Zombie song and turn it full techno is not a stretch and is pretty seemless with most of the original song in tact and still quite recognizable. Compared to trying to do that with Slayer or some of the aweful remixes done to NiN. This album is a masterfully done remix and does not insults the original, but is totally for those who enjoy electronic genere of music and not for the metal heads.

Oh Yeah!

Great songs with Great new Versions and a Sexy cover for people to notice quicker. Two hoots and a holler for her!

Zombie Stomped

If you are looking for an album that you can kick tail to, this is it. The Techno/Trance infusion into White Zombie's top singles makes for an excellent find. The infusion is done in a way that makes the singles rock just as much but with a more industrial sound. I would consider this a staple in any industrial music collection. NIN fans will definitely enjoy!!!

Formed: 1985 in New York, NY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s

For metalheads who thought bands like W.A.S.P. and Mötley Crüe just weren't menacing or heavy enough, White Zombie was the perfect antidote for a period of time during the mid- to late '90s, fusing B-horror movie visuals and subject matter with heavy music and growled vocals. And while White Zombie was originally thought to be a full-fledged band, it would later become known that the group was almost entirely the vision of its larger-than-life singer, Rob Zombie. Hence, the White Zombie story begins...
