Guitarist Martyn Heyne’s music is as much about the beautiful textures and intimate atmospheres he creates as it is about its hypnotic harmonies and pulsating rhythms. Opening track “Carry” sweeps the listener along on a tide of gently rocking figurations, the music subtly changing color, growing, and fading. The muffled tone of “Luxury” is a comforting cushion of sound, while “2400” juxtaposes the mechanical sounds of an old piano with an ambient sweep. The stripped-back, intimate solo guitar track “Afar” shows Heyne to be a gifted communicator. This is a gorgeous album of intriguing variety.
