iTunes Editors’ Notes

Like its predecessor—2010’s Ironbound—The Electric Age was self-produced by Overkill in the garage studio of bassist D.D. Verni. The lack of intrusion and pressure from record-label interests let the group focus on its songwriting, which is some of the best of its career. While Ironbound reassured the public that this veteran group was still the world's most intensely athletic metal band, The Electric Age feels more like classic rock. Fans of Gun N’ Roses will certainly respond to “Electric Rattlesnake,” “Drop the Hammer Down,” “21st Century Man," and “Old Wounds, New Scars,” which are at their core punky, bluesy hard rock songs intensified by about 10,000 extra volts of electricity. Fans who need the all-out militaristic blitz of thrash can proceed directly to “Come and Get It,” “Save Yourself," and “All Over but the Shouting.” Pit Overkill against the angriest, fastest, and youngest punk bands you can think of, and Overkill will blow the competition out of the water. The epic multipart closer “Good Night” is an Overkill classic. It's the perfect sendoff to the intensely concentrated but utterly enjoyable ride of The Electric Age.

Perfection!!!!

This band is like a fine wine, they just get better and better with age. Been listing to Overkill from the start of the trash movement and their entire catalog of music is an epic journey into the thrash genera. Every song is perfect. Overkill, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus, the real Big 4!!!!

One of my favorite albums of the 21st century

Overkill gave the right name for this album, as it brings this intense energy that never lets up. Surely, this album is in within my top 15 albums of all time. Electric Rattlesnake, Save Yourself, Come and Get It, Good Night, and Black Daze--half the songs already--are my favorites, but really, there is no filler content in this album; every song is well-structured and fun to listen to. Fans of metal, especially thrash metal, won't be disappointed!

Also, look out for Testament, Accept, Sodom (shooting for late summer release), and Kreator's new albums set to release this year.

I Never thought they could actually top Ironbound

Once again Overkill has Failed to dissapoint me. This album is truley amazing, From Come and Get it through Good Night all of this albums songs are strong. This album has The Song composure of The Years of Decay Meeting the Heaviness of Necroshine (Also the album cover looks like a bit of a cross between the 2 album covers as well) The Best songs were (in my opinion) Come and Get it, Electric Rattlesnake, Wish You Were Dead, Good Night, Black Daze, and Old Wounds New Scars

Biography

Formed: 1980 in Old Bridge Township, NJ

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

New Jersey thrash quartet Overkill were formed in 1980 by vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and guitarist Bobby Gustafson, and also included bassist D.D. Verni and drummer Rat Skates (later replaced by Sid Falck). The band garnered a reputation for brutal, pounding speed and technique, but lacked the musical diversity to compete with heavy hitters like Metallica; still, Overkill built up a strong following in the metal underground with albums like 1985's Taking Over and 1988's Under the Influence....
