Editors’ Notes

A sort of indie-rock super-group, the output of Vancouver's New Pornographers often seemed to take a backseat to the eclectic first careers of its various participants. These originally included Thee Evaporator's John Collins, Zumpano's Carl Newman, Dan Bejar from Destroyers and filmmaker Blain Thurier, along with occasional vocalist Neko Case and drummer Fisher Rose. Consequently, three years passed between their well-received debut and this 2003 sophomore effort for Matador. Yet the band manages an even more energetic and assured second coming, channeling a couple decades of hook 'n' harmony rich pop affections into the title track and standouts such as "It's Only Right," "Blown Speakers," and the infectious sing-along anthem "The Laws Have Changed."

really good

This album is amazing.... electric version, new face zero and one, divine right, and july jones are all really good. everyone i have exposed this album to loves it. sounds a little like the strokes with harmonies and keybord... must-have album

Powerpop Sensation

This is a really fun power-pop album, filled with great melodic hooks. Neko Case's vocals (along with Carl Newman and Dan Bejar's) really makes for a unique, compelling sound. Very accessible, but with some subtlety.

indie dance party!

The New Pornographers are amazingly upbeat and will not fail to put a smile on your face when you're down. Electric Version is a great album and i give it 5 stars with pride. This band has a talent for making their music fun to listen to, which is an amazing asset in my mind.

Newman began the band in 1996 as a lark after releasing Zumpano's Goin' Through Changes; one by one, the other members joined the fold, and the New Pornographers' first official rehearsal took place in 1997. By the following year, the group had completed...
