iTunes Editors’ Notes

The Colombian band Bomba Estereo mixes Latin, rock, and electronica music in organic ways. That winning combination of rhythm and texture is evident on “Bosque,” the opener on the band's 2012 release Elegancia Tropical. All sorts of details animate this cool-yet-driving track: reverb guitar, rippling congas, tremulous bass, electronics, and environmental recordings. All support the energetic vocals of Liliana Saumet, who moves easily between rapping and singing throughout the album. A Colombian rhythm undergirds a variety of electronic stylings on one of the catchier cuts, “Bailar Conmigo.” “Sinteando” features flowing guitar patterns that bring Afropop to mind and serve as a backdrop for Saumet’s speedy vocals. Brazilian MC Bnegao guests on “Rocas,” where Spanish and Portuguese lyrics are punched out over a reggaeton rhythm. Siren-like synths segue into big beats on “Caribbean Power,” where Saumet takes no prisoners. “Pa’ Respirar,” which frames its sonic drama with a mellow opening and a noisy ending, brings Elegancia Tropical to a close.

Customer Reviews

Their finest album to date

Li Samuet leads the way as Bomba displays their dynamic range with this album. Rocas is perhaps my favorite as its the most upbeat and shows Samuet's edgy side. Sintiendo and Pa' Respirar show a much softer and more soulful side to the group. I would also recommend purchasing the acoustic version of El Alma y el Cuerpo. Elegancia Tropical is a musical journey that fuses multiple Latin beats in a modern and elegant way. By Far my favorite Bomba album.

Borderline Electronica/Alternative. This music has class even if I don't understand what is being said. What I like in it is it sounds new, fresh and solid.

Hypnotic and fun

The first song, Bosque, is my favorite. It reminds of me laying in a hammock, closing my eyes, and listening to the sounds around me - in Latin America. The rest of the album is fun and really great to dance to. Excellent album by this Colombian group.
