Not Whole Show??!

DVD release contains the entire show! This is not the whole thing so, buyer beware. Set list from DVD is amazing and runs over 3 hours -- would have been very popular move for EJ to sell whole show as CD as well for those of us who do not believe the hype in buying music DVD's (who sits and watches those?). Too bad for EJ, he will lose a considerable amount of revenue for those who desire the whole show on CD but do not want yet another live CD with the standards, i.e. -- Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer, Crocodile Rock, et. al. One star here only because it's not the whole thing -- full length show = 5 stars easy.

A pop icon's greatest hits live

Well, folks, read the 2-star review closely. That person was at the concert and his only gripe is that he wanted MORE of the concert on the release. I have to agree. As a fan, I was more excited about the rare tracks played live that ARE part of the bonus disc being offered with the DVD package just released. For Elton newbies, though, this is a great selection of his greatest hits live. The setlist is ALL from the 70s hits---NOTHING post 70s. The concert was recorded this year, though. The Here and There album is better (recorded IN the 70s), but this is really the only "greatest hits-live" album Elton has except for the older Madison CD from 10 years ago or so that was awful due to all the duets on it. All in all, this is a great buy and great representation of what EJ is like in concert these days. Like the 2-star reviewer, I was hoping for a longer version of the concert but that doesn't mean this selection--the best of the best---doesn't deserve 5 stars.

For Rocket Man alone, this is worth it

Oh, how I wish I could have been at the show! But I couldn't, and even though this is only twelve songs out of a three hour concert, I'm over the moon! To hear a live version of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding done as it hasn't been done on any of his other live recordings, to be able to hear All the Young Girls in a live setting for the first time, I can't explain it. And Rocket Man, OMG, he's turned it into a masterpiece here. Better than the studio version. Never, never forget Elton John the piano man...I could listen to Sir Elton play that Yamaha forever...he's the best, the best, the best. Look, you want something comprehensive, get the DVD, you'll have the visuals...this baby's going on the road with me in the car! I really wish they would have included "Sixty Years On', though, since that's what he started the show, but you know, they made this a kind of live "Greatest Hits", and that's OK. I feel like I'm there. It was 60-year-old Sir Elton's birthday, but the gift of his music is to me. Unbelievable!!

In terms of sales and lasting popularity, Elton John was the biggest pop superstar of the early '70s. Initially marketed as a singer/songwriter, John soon revealed he could craft Beatlesque pop and pound out rockers with equal aplomb. He could dip into soul, disco, and country, as well as classic pop balladry and even progressive rock. His versatility, combined with his effortless melodic skills, dynamic charisma, and flamboyant stage shows, made him the most popular recording artist of the '70s....
