iTunes Review

Elvis Presley would soon enough be inducted into the Army, which would turn the first few years of his recording career into a definitive period. He'd reached one million in sales for each of the 14 singles contained here, many of which had never appeared on an LP before. Having them all in one place was a convenience that fans enjoyed, and this set makes for a great summary of Presley's earliest and biggest hits. (Though, it should be noted, before his induction he recorded material in 1958 for the King Creole soundtrack, including the No. 1 hit "Hard Headed Woman.") Considered more a convenience than a historical document, this album makes no attempt to proceed in chronological order; Elvis' first No. 1 hit, "Heartbreak Hotel," is thrown into fourth position, and the a-side and b-side of the "Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel" single are split into the opening track on each side of the original LP. Most amazingly, all of these recordings were made between Jan. 10, 1956, and Sept. 5, 1957.

Elvis Presley is amazing! This is such a great album. One of the first Albums i ever owned when I was little! Such a great collection of songs a must for any Elvis Fan!

Elvis was right...

I have a copy of this album that I purchased in 1977. It had an “echo” on it that somehow made this album most spectacular. Then, years later, after I wore it out and searched for new I found someone went in, “cleaned it up” brought Elvis’ voice out front and put the music behind. I just wish someone would leave the mixes the way Elvis wanted them. Please. Leave the mixes the way HE wanted them mixed.

Elvis Presley may be the single most important figure in American 20th century popular music. Not necessarily the best, and certainly not the most consistent. But no one could argue with the fact that he was the musician most responsible for popularizing rock & roll on an international level. Viewed in cold sales figures, his impact was phenomenal. Dozens upon dozens of international smashes from the mid-'50s to the mid-'70s, as well as the steady sales of his catalog and reissues since his death...
