This album is the best thing Candlemass did since Marcolin quit for the first time (back in late 80s I believe), if not better. The music is just top notch, essential doom with great production, long epic songs and awesome solos and musicianship - yet riffing stays simple and effective. Robe Lowe’s vocals are the best he did in his career, in my opinion. They are even better than on his last Solitude album. He fits perfectly into the band. The CD is a must have for all Candlemass fans and doom metal fans ... or any metalhead for that reason.

Agreed. Messiah is missed.

I guess im pretty biased because I am not fond of Robert's vocals at all. Music is still flawless though and that is what holds the album. I am a big fan of Doom but Robert's vocals seem to make the songs feel twice as long as they actually are. Gave this album three stars instead of four because of Robert and his slaughter of Solitude. Im sorry but I wished that remake was never done. The Swallow the Sun cover of it runs circles around this version.

A good album

A nice addition to the Candlemass collection but it lacks the true sparks Messiah brings out in the music. Still good, just not essential and a notch below Messiah's efforts.

After the breakup of his first band, Nemesis, in 1985, bassist Leif Edling founded Candlemass with vocalist Johan Lanquist, guitarist Mats Bjorkman, and drummer Matz Ekstroem. Their watershed debut, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, was...
