iTunes Review

A Canadian emcee/singer/producer, K-OS has been putting out albums for a full decade now. While he's somewhat popular in the States, he's absolutely huge in his home country. Mixing hip-hop fundamentals with rock, pop, and soul, plus a little reggae, he's one of those artists who appeals to a wide range of listeners, with music diverse enough to stay interesting and unthreatening enough to showcase on TV. His songs are overwhelmingly positive, and his charitable steez extends out of the studio; he has contributed music to both Amnesty International and the Steven Lewis Foundation, raising money to help fight AIDS in Africa. This 18-track collection was recorded live during a TV special aired on MuchMusic (sort of the Canadian MTV, if MTV still did music). It features K-OS doing stripped-down, unplugged versions of his many hits, including "B-Boy Stance," "I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman," and "The Man I Used to Be." Live instrumentation definitely spruces up the revamped mixes, and we also get strong collaborations with Saukrates, Shad, and Ben from Billy Talent.

The LP stood out dramatically with lush, instrument-driven arrangements to go with the traditional hip-hop elements of drum programming, samples,...
