this album was worth the wait!

i have to say i got introduced to Emika through ninja tune about a year ago. i have been waiting for this album for months and in short, i have to say it is well worth the wait and the money. it is dark, moody, sexy and unpredictable. Credit Theme (track 12) is just sick. phenomenal! i am so happy to be a fan of Emika! these sounds will be with me for a while i think. if you think you are better off without, do yourself a favor and just get this album. spread it. love it. come to Texas Emika!

I was not expecting this. Not at all! What an amazing debut effort from Emika! Never heard of her. I was just going through a list albums on iTunes to see if I missed any good ones from 2011. How this album got passed me is something I'll never be able to figure out. Dark, classical, heavy-electronic, crazy vocals, and just down-right intricate! By looking at the album cover, I would never have expected this. Thank you very much, Emika! And great choice of music label! I never can seem to go wrong with Ninja Tune.

Instant love for Emika

I've always been a big fan of Trip Hop "Bristol Sound" style music especially when the instrumentation is dark yet melodic while contrasted with beautiful female vocals. Post nineties, this sound has been lacking, but every now & then something fills that specific thirst for this addictive music, & Emika has done it. Amazing tracks like Double Edge and Professional Loving made me immediately get her album. I listened to the whole album in full blast in my car & it's been exactly what I've been looking for: incredible layers of audioscapes topped by Emika's sensually affecting voice and lyrics, songs that destroyed formula just before it's repetition would persisted & overstayed welcome, a rarity for electronic music in general. After a vast varying range of tempos, blips & beats, she left me to catch my breath with a classic piano sonata with "Credit Theme." Can't wait for more from her. In its entirety, best electronic album I've heard in a long time.

Bewitching, atmospheric melodies and glitchy electronic beats make up the music of electronic artist Emika. After growing up in Bristol, U.K. and receiving a music technology degree in Bath, she procured an internship at the offices of the London label Ninja Tune, where she worked for a month. She then traveled to Berlin, where she started working as a sound designer for Native Instruments. In her downtime, she began honing her own uniquely haunting musical style with her laptop, picking up ideas...
