Album Review

Spocks Beard fans may be dissapointed with this one. There's no intricate compositions laced with complex lyrics on this Neil Morse solo effort. Instead, Neil opts to deliver a mellow, almost punchless, release. At times, on such tracks as "Living Out loud," "Nowhere Fast" and "The Man Who Would Be King," the "Spock" in Neil shines through. Unfortunately, this is a good example of the whole missing the sum of its parts.

Professional Review . . . Feh!

This is a wonderful album which showcases Neal's ability to craft songs in the no-so proggy vein. No, the album doesn't contain 40 minute plus jams or odd time signature changes that us prog snobs have grown to love (although tracks 8-11 track in at over 20 minutes). What it does deliver are well crafted "pop" songs that have a very identifiable Neal Morse-esqe feel to them. With that being said, a review is just one persons opinion - take it as you will. Listen to the samples and let your ears decide.

iTunes review is a load of bull!

This is a fantastic album. Neal just shows how making an album without the progressive edge like everyone else is also within his mastery. He delivers the usual sublime undercurrent of his message within the "cultural mainstream" of today's music, proving that if he really wanted commercial success, all he'd have to do is ask. Check out SOLA SCRIPTURA. Keep it up, Neal! Those of us that can appreciate music as art and a potent delivery system for human expression are all behind you.

amazing solo work

lets not forget that neal always wanted to write pop when he was younger. it just turned out he was too musically creative for pop. i say this is a great album for neal plus you always have A Whole Nother Trip epic at the end.
