Album Review

On Faith and Courage, her fifth studio album, Sinéad O'Connor sounds both lonely and afraid ("Jealous," "Dancing Lessions") and fiercely confident ("No Man's Woman"). The sorrowful "Hold Back the Night" and the Celtic reggae of "The Lamb's Book of Life" — the latter a slap against her native Ireland — are among her most honest songs. Despite the spiritual content, O'Connor's bitterness prevails.

Customer Reviews

an actual review of this great album

Unlike the other two reviewers here, I have actually listened to this album. Quite a few times in fact, and each time, it's still fresh and powerful. This is a beautiful, searing work of art by a great artist and singer. Music fans, you can find no better use for your 10 or so dollars than this. Sinead O'Connor, wherever you are, you always put it all out there for us, especially on this album. Thanks.

A Thing Of Beauty

Faith and Courage by Sinead O'Connor is one of the strongest albums of her career. It's too bad it came out when the public's interest in the musical direction presented here was in short supply. This could have been THE comeback album of the Pop-Rock Rebel... but sadly it was released about 3 - 4 years too late. Still, it shares the title with certain other overlooked albums as One Of The Best Albums You Never Heard. So what are you waiting for? Have Faith-Show Courage.

This is soo underrated. Such a masterpiece. Wish it would have been promoted better. One of the best albums in the last 15 years. Sample: Hold back the night, Jealous, Till I whisper u something, Daddy I'm fine, The state i'm in, and the excellent- Dancing lessons. You'll wanna buy it!

Sinéad O'Connor ranked among the most distinctive and controversial pop music stars of the alternative era, the first and in many ways, the most influential of the numerous female performers whose music dominated airwaves throughout the last decade of the 20th century. Brash and outspoken -- her shaved head, angry visage, and shapeless wardrobe a direct challenge to popular culture's long-prevailing notions of femininity and sexuality -- O'Connor irrevocably altered the image of women in rock; railing...
