Superb

The whole "nightwish" thing makes me laugh. I've heard that sooo many times about soooo many bands. Apparently every single female fronted band secretly wishes they were nightwish. Where did that come from? Nightwish is great but they're not the only and not even the best female fronted metal band out there... weird. Anyway, this album is great, very earthy and folky. Very UN-nightwishish ;)

Lovely Liv Leads Leaves' Eyes LP

Let me begin by saying that Liv Kristine is a goddess.

I know it's apparently voguish for people whose understanding and depth of knowledge of symphonic gothic metal is a bit lacking to compare any female-fronted band to Nightwish. However, Nightwish was first and foremost a death metal band with both operatic and death vocals. Leaves' Eyes is all beauty, with only a hint of beast thrown in. Tarja elevated an average death metal band to excellence. Liv Kristine was already exceptionally well established as a vocalist prior to the split and formation of Leaves' Eyes.

In other words, this isn't Nightwish. Not even close. And that's a good thing. Liv has a radiant voice that transcends "genre metal" and makes this effort truly outstanding. There was never anything subtle about Nightwish (even balladry such as 'Creek Mary's Blood' was always mega-theatrical) - Leaves' Eyes is a record of depth and complexity, strongly influenced by Scandinavian folk roots but with enough edge to keep metal fans hooked. This album evokes Midnattsol more than Nightwish, whose last album dripped with vitriol aimed (unfairly) at Tarja.

I love this album, I love Liv's vocals on anything, and this album is a supremely excellent example of true Symphonic Gothic Metal. Buy it. Now.

epic is an understatement

just got this copy today....this band with there flawless story telling and great composition just keep getting better and better-get this album and please come to seattle...
