10 years later and all that potential.

I saw Creeper Lagoon play live in San Francisco to support this EP a handful of times in '97. Every show, whether at Slim's headlining or opening for Pavement at the Fillmore, I kept thinking that this band would be huge. They were the band I went to see every time they played in the city, because it was always a great live show and I'd felt that before long, getting tickets would be impossible once everyone else found out about them. Met the band once wandering around with the audience, all of us semi-drunken, after opening for Guided By Voices at the Fillmore. Some big Dreamworks deal later, a shiny polished CD, which I thought was good, but was just the start of things better, and then nothing. 10 years pass. Pavement breaks up, GBV breaks up. My hair falls out and here's that little EP by that band that had so much potential, sitting on iTunes without a single review. The guitarist/singer Ian went on to record with a band called On The Speakers, whose stuff is very Creeper-like. And Creeper Lagoon? Well, they have a new CD according to their website. The tracks I've heard are of the slow and whispery lo-fi bedroom 4-track ilk. Not the booming indie-rock show Creeper. I feel old.

Watering Ghost Garden followed two years later; Take Back the Universe And Give Me Yesterday was issued in early 2001. The following summer, the...
