CHVRCHES' Masterpiece

CHVRCHES' sophomore effort is a class act. Shedding much of the psychedelic experimental electronic music of 'The Bones of What You Believe', 'Every Open Eye' delves quickly into a style that improves on the first album without losing the iconic sound and charm.

The Album opens with 'Never Ending Circles', which retains the feel of their first album adding a nostalgia value, but it's not the best track. That title belongs to 'Leave A Trace', a standout on the album. It's catchy. The fast paced 'Keep You on My Side' also stirs up strong emotions and urgency. 'Make Them Gold' is one of the best on the album, a song that is filled with candor and optimism. 'Clearest Blue' is by far the most emotionally stirring song, starting small but increasing in power until it reaches a marvelous crescendo. 'High Enough to Carry You Over' provides an interesting change in lead vocalist. 'Empty Threat' continues the feeling of optimism despite a failing relationship, much like track four. 'Down Side of Me' has an understated beauty about it, but it tends to get repetitive. 'Playing Dead' provides the best chorus since track two.
'Bury It' is my personal favorite, with great beats, a great chorus, and great verses. The album wraps up with 'Afterglow', a ballad that is hauntingly beautiful.

The Extended Edition of this album adds multiple bonus tracks and remixes, providing more artistry, though none quite reach the epic level of the base tracks.

Overall, this is a great album. There isn't a song I dislike, and plenty I love. CHVRCHES is an artistic, clever, beautiful group, and 'Every Open Eye' showcases this perfectly.

Pretty much pointless...

This is basically just the deluxe version with one new song and some remixes... A waste of a reIssue, why not include Up in Arms and some demos/alternate versions?

💒💒💒

Finally! A compilation of the many tracks they've released since Every Open Eye to what was already a very good album.
