Editors’ Notes

Upon its 1974 release, Endless Summer re-established The Beach Boys in the public consciousness without the group having to make new material. It was a simple double album of songs from their 1963-1966 period, with "Good Vibrations" being the only song coming after their classic Pet Sounds album, which is ignored completely. Though other releases have summarized the group's career more completely, Endless Summer is many fans' favorite collection, since it was the first time all these hits had been compiled in one place. The sound of the music was several degrees of amp distortion away from what was happening in 1974, and a new generation was excited by the passion, energy, and strong melodies of Beach Boys tunes as varied as "Surfin' U.S.A.," "The Warmth of the Sun," "In My Room," "I Get Around," "Don't Worry Baby," and "California Girls." Endless Summer represents an excellent summary. It's less overwhelming than the exhaustive and excellent Good Vibrations 142-track set or The Beach Boys 50 Biggest Hits, obviously. For some listeners, this and a copy of Pet Sounds fulfills their needs.

Customer Reviews

Very classic in its time, and still is.

You can't see it here, but this was a "gatefold" album cover, and when you opened it up, Carl and Dennis were also shown. So it was one large rectangular horizontal piece of art with all 5 Beach Boys shown. Around this time, the Eagles were opening for the Beach Boys in large stadiums, and they were quoted as saying that they couldn't believe all the endless cool Beach Boys songs, one after another, that everybody knew all the words to!!

Great memories 🌞🌞🌞

Just had to purchase this album! Listened to it all through high school - brings back memories of crushes on boys, hanging out on the beach at night with friends... Every song on this album is great

Still cruisin'

In my neighborhood, the day you got your driver’s license, you did three things. Get an under the dash 8 track tape player, wedge speakers for your rear deck, and a copy of Endless Summer. My time was 1978 and this album still sounds as good to me now as it did back then. Time has passed, I’ve gotten older, but to this day you can see me with the top down and Endless Summer blasting “All Summer Long”. These are some of the greatest songs ever recorded and they will last for eternity. This is a must have recording for people of all ages.

Beginning their career as the most popular surf band in the nation, the Beach Boys finally emerged by 1966 as America's preeminent pop group, the only act able to challenge (for a brief time) the overarching success of the Beatles with both mainstream listeners and the critical community. From their 1961 debut with the regional hit "Surfin," the three Wilson brothers -- Brian, Dennis, and Carl -- plus cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine constructed the most intricate, gorgeous harmonies ever heard...
