Notas editoriales de iTunes

The Essential Carl Smith covers the singer’s mid-‘50s prime, when hits like “Let’s Live A Little,” “Loose Talk,” and “Hey Joe!” made him a fixture on the Grand Ole Opry. Smith’s early years on the Opry coincided with Hank Williams’ final years, and their music shares many of the essential qualities that make for immortal ‘50s honky-tonk: a solid, unhurried swing, unadorned instrumentation, and of course, an endless supply of tender and woeful ruminations. Even as the later songs on The Essential Carl Smith abut the late-‘50s electrification of country music, Smith always maintained a humbler, more relaxed approach to his material than Williams. Gentle ballads like “I Just Dropped In to Say Goodbye” and “This Orchid Means Goodbye” owe as much to Bing Crosby as they do Ernest Tubb. But Smith was never better than on “Let’s Live a Little” and “It’s a Lovely, Lovely World,” sweet songs with strong melodies that require only one listen before you know them by heart.

The Only CD on iTunes With Carl's Original & Biggest Hits!

Since Carl passed away on January 16th, 2010, folks will want something to remember him by. This is the CD to get! All 5 of his #1 singles are here and all the rest made the Country Top 10 as well. After this golden era for Carl, he'd rarely hit the Top 10 again, but not for lack of trying. While I don't claim to be a family relative, I can clarify that his 5 CD box set is actually on the BEAR FAMILY label out of Germany, but it usually costs over $100. This CD is currently a better value. Thanks for the music, Carl!

Time's a-wastin

Why isn't this song on itunes? It's in demand, esp. after the movie Walk the Line, and it would make money for the artist. Please add because time's a-wastin.

Known as Mr. Country, Carl Smith was one of the most popular honky tonkers of the '50s, racking up over 30 Top Ten hits over the course of the decade. Smith was also able to sustain that popularity into the late '70s, during which time he had a charting single for every year except one. Smith had a talent for singing smooth ballads which polished the rough edges of hardcore country. Nevertheless, he could sing pure honky tonk with the best of them, and his hardest country was made tougher by the...
