iTunes Editors’ Notes

A daredevil/folk hero of epic proportions, Evel Knievel wowed audiences around the world with his death-defying motorcycle jumps, bone shattering crashes, and trademark red-white-and-blue outfits. Especially beloved by the kids, he also went out of his way to be a good role model, extolling the virtues of clean living, maintaining a positive mental attitude, and keeping safety first. This hard-to-find album, released at the height of his fame in 1974, is mostly of the spoken-word variety (though it also features the country-fied stylings of "Ballad of Evel Knievel" and "Why"), with Evel giving a press conference about his plans to take on Snake River Canyon in the infamous Sky Cycle, and explaining the fundamentals of a "red out" (when all the blood rushes to your head and starts coming out your ears). On the aptly titled "Evel Talks With The Kids," he addresses a group of awe-struck schoolchildren with his mellifluous deadpan, conducting a Q&A session and extolling them to always — always — wear a helmet. A curious piece of 1970s pop culture gold, and another victory for the the self-proclaimed 'last of the gladiators.'
