EDITORS’ NOTES

The young Jamaican band restores earthy pungency to traditional roots riddims. “Wondering” and “Ready For Love” are lovers rock tunes that allow Kumar Bent to flex his talents as an R&B singer, while “Ragamuffin” is a hard-hitting revival of the militant dancehall riddims of the early ‘80s. Like the Isley Brothers meeting Gyptian, “Would You Love Me” is a deliriously fragrant modern pop song, but if you really crave that early ‘70s Wailers mood, feel free to lose yourself in the blue smoke of “Getting Dread.”

About Raging Fyah

Like a Morgan Heritage for the next generation, the roots rock reggae group Raging Fyah released two indie albums before joining the VP label in 2016. Forming members Delroy "Pele" Hamilton (bass), Demar "Keysie" Gayle (keyboards), and Anthony Watson (drums) met at Kingston, Jamaica’s Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts where Third World member Ibo Cooper was their professor. With guitarist Courtland "Gizmo" White added to the lineup, they launched as Inside Out in 2002. A name change to Raging Fyah came in 2006, and their debut album Judgement Day landed in 2011. Destiny followed in 2014 before the group signed with VP via the label's Dub Rockers imprint. After joining Tuff Gong Studios producer Llamar "Riff Raff" Brown in the studio, the group released full-length Everlasting in 2016. ~ David Jeffries
