So much more than a cappella!

Calling this music a cappella is technically accurate, but so is calling a Rolls Royce a car: it doesn’t even begin to hint at the richness and texture here. This ain't barbershop, folks. This music will change the way you listen to the human voice. Impressive, incredible, astounding. Fill in your choice of superlative. Buy this. Trust me.

SONOSings Sonos Perfectly

Sometimes you discover music that captures a moment, but leaves no lasting impression. And once in a while you hear a sound you've not heard before, a style, voices and songs that never leave you. Sonos is one such sound. Whether it's the sheer beauty of the vocals -- "Re: Stacks" or "Little Bird;" the unique reinventions in some of the arrangements like "I Want You Back" and Fleet Foxes' "White Winter Hymnal;" the songs you didn't know that catch you off guard such as Imogen Heap's early "Come Here Boy", and fellow Brit Lewis Taylor's "Bittersweet;" or simply the aural delights and production quality of "Everything in its Right Place" and "Joga" (not to mention the amazing guest vocal from Sara Bareilles on "Gravity")... the quality threshhold here is very, very high. Don't be surprised if you see the name Sonos everywhere in 2010. A delight from beginning to end. Bravo.

A rare contribution

For me SONOSings is a truly rare combination of elements: powerful vocalists, expertly crafted arrangements, intriguing choices in material... I keep using the word "alchemy" to describe their sound, because there is something mysteriously special about it. I've been lucky enough to see them perform live, and this album is really a testament to how good they are.

Genre: Vocal

Years Active: '00s

A cappella group Sonos mixes traditional choral singing with a distinctly alternative, indie approach, and the result is a fresh, bright hybrid that re-imagines the genre for the 21st century. Emerging from the southern California college a cappella world, the group — as much a collective as anything else — includes singers Chris Harrison, Jessica Freedman, Katharine Anne Hoye, Rachel Bearer, Ben McLain, and Paul Peglar, made a name for itself in L.A. with smart, inventive, and bold vocal-only...
