iTunes Review

Ne-Yo’s third full-length finds him moving away from R&B and towards acoustic-and-piano-driven pop in the mold of “Take A Bow” and “Irreplaceable," the hit singles he wrote for Rihanna and Beyonce. “Closer” and “Miss Independent” maintain the rushing pulse of club music without becoming bombastic, while the smooth dance cut “Nobody” looks to the always-relevant Michael Jackson for inspiration.

this album is beautiful.

from beginning to end, every track has a different flow, lyrical story, and beat. each song is great in its own way and you can tell ne-yo shot for quality over quanity here. Closer - lead single off of the album, and an excellent way to get ne-yo's new album into the view of the world. stargate has of course some amazing production on this one, a simple synthesized guitar, a few piano keys and a body pulsing bass bump along with ne-yo's smoother then butter lyrics makes this track an 08 hit 5.5 Nobody - take a little step back into the 70's with Nobody, a track that explains that the girl is untouchable and ne-yo admires that about her. sweet production, not a bad song 3.5/5 Single - this song is also featured on New Kids On the Block's 08 release. production is handled here by polow da don, who adds a great rhythem and flow to evey track he gets on, bumpin bass line, great slow-club song, and of course ne-yo fits the track perfectly 4.5/5 Mad - one of the slower songs on here, explaining how he doesnt want to always fight with his love, and it does mean a lot to him to get through the bad and good, you can tell he put a lot of effort into this one 4/5 Miss Independent - ahh the newest fresh single all over the radio's today. i heard about this one quite some time ago, and i wasnt sure if it was as great as Closer but it will deff get the attention it deserves, this is the 2nd single on the album, amazing beat, probably one of the more popular songs that displays women in a non-sexual way...gotta love it 5/5 Why Does She Stay - a song that has a small personal connection to me but either way, it wont get too much attention but has a nice smoooth beat laced with ne-yos lyrics wondering why his girl is still with him even after she knows how he treats her. 3/5 Fade Into the Backround - this just does not seem like a song ne-yo would jump on, maybe its the beat? im not sure 2.5/5 So You Can Cry - almost like a because of you pt 2, has that bouncy beat, easy listening lyrics and a wonderfully laced beat, puts this together to make a possible single? 4.5/5 Part of the List - ehh, the lyrics are great but the beat is just not doing it for me at all, this one could go either way 3/5 Back to What You Know - ahh, ive been in this situation, your with a girl, but her heart is still with another man, well for any of you that have been in this situation ne-yo's advice is " go back to where your heart is girl" nicely done 4/5 Lie To Me - this song is the best slow song on the album, everything from the rather chilling beat, mixed with deep meaningful lyrics, or just the overal feel of this song, im not sure what it is but seriously this song wins my award for best song on the album, i dont care that it isnt radio ready. 10/5 Stop This World - more meaningful song of ne-yo's here to end the album, personally i would of ended it with Lie To Me, but this track is not bad at all, great lyrics, soothing beat, decent conclusion She Got Her Own (Miss Independent Remix) [feat. Jamie Foxx & Fabolous] - apparently this is the remix for miss independent, but it really doesnt have much to do with the original which is IMO wayyyyy better then this one, and i know ne-yo isnt big on featuring people but jamie foxx? i disagree. maybe lloyd, colby o donis, the-dream, or someone like that would of been better - 4/5 not bad for a 3rd album. like i said in the beginning, Ne-Yo shot for quality over quantity here but im not entirely sure how many of these songs will fair in terms of full album sales. My Track Download Suggestions: Closer Miss Independent Single Lie To Me (and if you are feeling the slow jams, buy mad, so you can cry, and stop this world)

Ne-Yo was one of the most successful songwriters and artists of the 2000s. His breakthrough didn't come until late 2004, as the co-songwriter of Mario's "Let Me Love You," a number one Hot 100 hit that Billboard later determined to be the eighth most successful single of the decade.
