Customer Reviews

Like my previous review of this album... this album is timeless. Only a few productions can match to the caliber of this album. For those seeking for "Fall In Love". It's here!!! And we're finally blessed with instrumentals. R.I.P Jay Dee aka J Dilla, you are a gift from GOD. Thank you for blessing our ears and R.I.P to Baatin also... your lyrics and humor runs deep forever.

One of the greatest albums of all time

The classic album the way it was originally suppose to sound!!!

I remember when i was in college in the late 90's a friend of mine had Fantastic vol. 1 on tape. He was from Detroit & when he told me one of the members was Jay Dee from the Ummah he didn't have to say anymore!!! As soon as I heard it I fell in love with the Slum! This was like 99. He went home for the summer & came back in the fall with Vol. 2 and we would sit in his room and vibe to it. I was so excited when the album officially came out because it had been so bootleg before. Even though some of the songs were a little different than the album pressing my friend had it's still a classic album. Not until now have i been able to hear the album the way it was suppose to be heard. Im so glad that this is not a new pressing of the album with just the instrumentls added in for good measure. This is the way the album should have sounded & i'm glad i was ablum to hear it!!! My only drawback was not having the instrumental for Jealousy...SV 4 Life!!! RIP Dilla & Baatin!!!

Rising from the rugged streets and rich musical tapestry of Detroit, Slum Village were poised to carry on the old-school, funk, and soul-filled hip-hop torch of genre pioneers A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and the Pharcyde. Growing up in the Conant Garden neighborhood of Detroit and forming during high school at Detroit's Pershing High School, MCs Baatin, Jay Dee, and T3 quickly garnered praise and recognition in the local underground scene.
