11 Songs, 40 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Mikky Ekko still refuses to color within genre lines. On his second album, the Nashville-based singer-songwriter and producer rocks harder, but even when he breaks out the guitars, he can’t resist following his own quirky muse. “Bitter” could pass for the psychedelic sweep of Radiohead circa OK Computer if not for its offbeat hip-hop touches, and "Moment" is a distorted anthem that’s just a bit too soulful for alt-rock radio. This former Rihanna collaborator hasn’t abandoned his R&B side, either: He breaks out his falsetto on the love-struck “Cherish You” and flips potential slow jam “R.I.P.” into a haunting reverie. Ekko continues to carve out a unique space in modern pop, bringing together listeners hungry for culture-jamming innovation and those just yearning for killer hooks.

This album seriously ROCKS!

It does not disappoint. Saw Mikky in concert and didn’t truly appreciate the album until afterwards (purchased the EP). Then Fame came out and it delivers a variety of work and sounds that aim to please!
