iTunes Review

After Kye Kye's debut album, Young Love, built up a considerable fanbase, the group (featuring Estonian-born, Pacific Northwest–based siblings Olga, Timothy, and Alex Yagolnikov, plus Olga's husband Thomas Phelan) set up a Kickstarter and raised more than $40,000 to fund their follow-up album, Fantasize. Producing the album with Chad Howat at Nashville's Bottom Bunk Studios, Kye Kye brought in a number of guests to build out their ethereal/ambient pop-rock. “I Already See It” introduces the album, as unassuming synth chords are met with an explosive introduction that settles into Olga’s sweet spot. Kye Kye sometimes resemble a mix of acts from the labels 4AD and Creation Records, as well as Sigur Ros; see “Honest Affection” and “People," plus the title track, where the sonic atmospheres are so heavenly that it seems almost impossible that no one ever found their way here before. And where some albums fall off somewhere in the second half, Fantasize features several of the album’s best songs near the end: “Seasons,” “Softly," and “Hiding Place.” For closure, the band opt for the instrumental “Celeste,” a beautiful and appropriate ending.

This is the best album that I have heard all year! "Softly" has the most intense, 80's feel to it with the Atmospheric sound of Kye Kye thrown in as well. Not to mention "People" which I predict to be high on the billboards. Overall, Kye Kye did such a great job, and I am excited to know that I helped fund a project that ended up so great!

Best dream-pop album of 2014? Yes.

Fantasize is my first exposure to Kye Kye. After watching the video for "Honest Affection," I was absolutely hooked. Described as "darkly romantic," Fantasize ventures into the atmospheric dream-pop realm, and after only a short listen to Olga's hauntingly affectionate voice, it seems they've hit a sweet spot. "Honest Affection" may be the best song on the record, but there are still a few greats. "Softly," which produces a soundscape similar to the production of a Peter Gabriel record, captures everything that is great about this album: sentimental lyrics over evocative pop melodies. "People," being driven by more natural rhythm sounds and a lush synth lead, is a hit single from front to back, . If you enjoy bands like M83, The Raveonettes, Washed Out, Starflyer 59, Purity Ring, or Chvrches, you will fall in love with Fantasize. Pre-order it now!

Drive soundtrack meets James Blake and Purity Ring

Wow. This album. Kye Kye brings depth and meaning to the indie electronic genre. The lyrics are straight amazing. Saw them live in Bryan, Tx and they were crazy good. This album also reminded me a lot of the Drive soundtrack. Super good. Keep it up.
