iTunes Editors’ Notes

The soundtrack to Wes Anderson’s critically acclaimed animated feature Fantastic Mr. Fox, which includes prerecorded material and Alexandre Desplat’s original score, takes the listener on a pleasurable journey providing a variety of shadings to the film’s story (based on Roald Dahl's classic story) about a fox who steals from three farmers to feed his family. Folk singer Burl Ives is represented by three catchy songs, “Fooba Wooba John,” “Buckeye Jim,” and “The Grey Goose.” The Beach Boys’ classic “Heroes and Villains” is included and so is the group’s version of the Hammerstein and Kern chestnut, “Ol’ Man River.” “Fantastic Mr. Fox a.k.a. Petey’s Song,” a collaboration between Anderson, director Noah Baumbach, and the wry British pop singer Jarvis Cocker, is a bit of old-timey music. And there’s room for the Bobby Fuller Four’s Latin-tinged rave-up “Let Her Dance,” Art Tatum’s version of “Night and Day,” and the Wellingtons’ “The Ballad of Davy Crockett.” Desplat’s cues sound great, and on “Just Another Dead Rat In a Garbage Pail (Behind a Chinese Restaurant)” he turns in a track that recalls Italian maestro Ennio Morricone.

A Whirlwind of Whimsy and Fun

Being nineteen years old I'm probably not the target audience for this film but it's without a doubt the best movie I've seen this year and one of the best I've ever seen in theaters. Surprisingly clever and quick witted, I never stopped smiling throughout the movie. As for the soundtrack, it fits the whole spectacle perfectly. Having a hint of farm and woods like bluegrass, but not overdone to an annoying extent. It also has a nostalgic feel bringing in older songs. Can't recommend the movie enough and the soundtrack is a good one, just not the best. It is better in the movie than standing alone. (P.S. The song "Love" was originally made for Disney's Robin Hood. Another fantastic fox and favorite movie of mine)

Simply beautiful...

As J-Dirt posted before, I'm not exactly the target audience being a 16 year old male but this flick has left me in awe of the creativity of Wes. I have to say that this is the best film that I've EVER seen. I've caught myself daydreaming for the last few days since I saw it about what it was about, the amazing music an the simply stunning stop motion filming. I am occasionally emotionally affected by movies and after walking out of the movie theatre I was teary because of the fact that it was over. Tomorrow I plan to see it again with friends that I talked into seeing it (who are hesitant) and plan on buying this amazing soundtrack and the App available for my iPhone. I think this movie is getting nowhere near the attention it deserves, Disney releases a mediocre movie and every little kid wants to see it, not many kids were quite as excited for this release. Highly recommend the album and the movie, will be buying the movie the day of release.

Wes and Randy do it again...

Always a pleasure....
