One more time with feeling

I first heard Carol on the pier in Jersey City while she was giving a free concert. After listening to her during my lunch hour I bought her demo/unrealeased/private label album "Spill My Soul". I was hooked. This album is even better then the demo. Her writing is from the heart and sung with emotion and conviction. I enjoy her spirtually themed tunes but it is subtle enough not to offend you atheists out there.
In addition to her excellent voice her band accenuates the songs, very accomplished musicians.
If you like Tift Merritt, Anna Nalick, Mindy Smith you enjoy Carol.

Great Album

Every time I hear a Carol Lester album, I am struck by how well it is produced. This is no exception. From the rocking vibe and great hook of the title track, to the Joni Mitchell-esque voicings in songs like “Pendulum Swing, the musical diversity is impressive. Carol’s gutsy and clear as a bell vocals take us for a multi-faceted journey, from her environmental and spiritual awareness (“Precious”), through a celebration of community (in Hebrew no less!), through a groovy re-examination of the values in the lyrics of “America the Beautiful” (“Spacious Skies”) to her political activism (“I Reject your Proposition”), Carol’s songs are intelligent and compassionate. I would expect no less from Carol. The album is saturated with a spirit of inclusion, and stands as an eloquent plea to recognize our interdependence and need for each other. And that at the core of all existence (as Lester's epic “Questions of the Ages” proposes) “what is there but Love”?. Indeed, what else?
