What? A worship album right after the "explicit" controversy? You bet.

In fact, what better time to delve into the Lord's Prayer (the inspiration for each track) than after coming through some difficult times? And, it shows in the music.

I'm deeply thankful for musicians that push creative limits like Derek in this album. Classically composed (theme-based) and sans vocals (except for a few brief occasions) Feedback challenges you to connect with the Divine on a deeper level than the latest contemporary worship hit.

Very Disappointed

Very poor, I expect much more from him. This album, sounds very slapped together. I expect this kind of album from a high school group, with little talent, not from a talented artist . Very disappointing!!!!

Abstract Worship Music

This album is not filled with wordy verses and light choruses. It is not a simple G-C-D-C chord progression. But it is worship. Listen. Enjoy. Think. Pray. Wonder. Wander.

In the style of Bach who signed his works "To the Glory of God," Derek Webb takes many musical influences (Classical form, Electronic sounds, Intricate melodies, Minimalism) and makes a work intended to aid and accompany one's contemplation of the Lord's Prayer. Not telling you what to think, Derek and Co. reflect themselves with in their artform and offer it for us to soak in. Sing along with the melodies that encompass more than any lyrics can.

Take the album as a whole, set aside some time and open yourself up to hear, not just the sounds but what could be spoken to you through this prayer. I listened to it for the first time through headphones, walking around a downtown, experiencing the activity that prayer can be.

I've said too many words, but trust me, this is an album to experience.

Although he works out of the thematically conservative contemporary Christian pop genre, singer/songwriter and guitarist Derek Webb has an agitator's soul and a flair for the controversial, approaches he uses in his music to force careful thought on vitally important issues. Born on May 27, 1974, in Memphis, TN, Webb attended high school in Texas, and was one of the founding members of the Houston-based Christian pop group Caedmon's Call when they formed in 1993, and he remained with the group through...
