iTunes Review

Drummer is a side project for the — surprise! — drummers from five Ohio-based bands: Patrick Carney of the Black Keys (bass), Greg Boyd of Ghostman and Sandman (drums), Jamie Stillman of Teeth of the Hydra (lead guitar), Jon Finley of Beaten Awake (vocals, guitar), and Steve Clements of Six Parts Seven (keyboards, vocals). For a collection of timekeepers their music is unexpectedly guitar driven. Ornate, sinuous lead lines strike a fine balance between math rock and indie noise that swirls among the crunchy keyboards on standouts like “Lottery Dust,” “Good Golly,” and the title track. Naturally, their first instruments inform the song structures, especially in the hairpin tempo changes and rhythmic shifts, and Boyd’s drumming is truly impressive throughout. Aided by Finley’s impassioned vocals, particularly on the hard-charging “Mature Fantasy” and “Buddy Scapes,” the band keeps the momentum up across these ten melodically rich and layered songs on this solid and enjoyable release — so give the Drummer some.

Good Stuff..

After the success of Dan Auerbach's solo venture, Pat Carney does a good job not being out done. Good sound to the band. Oh and Pat doesn't play drums on this, he is the bassist.

This album is da bomb.

Everything on this album is good. Seriously, just get it.

Ohio drummers bringing it hard with feel-great indie rock

Equally well suited for top-down cruisin at full volume, toe tapping smiles at a great party, or stoned zone-out with the headphones. Numbers like Mature Fantasy, and Good Golly fly out of the gate, sliding into slowed musical breaks, ghostly keyboards, before taking off again. Like the band seizes you up by the lapels, gives you a good natured shake, setting you down, then grabbing you up "hold on there buddy, we aint done with you yet." The guitar work by Jamie Stillman and Jon Finley soars, Stephen Clements' raspy vocals fan the flames on every track, and Greg Boyd's fantastic drumming punches and pops while band founder Patrick Carney lays down gleaming, perky bass lines. This sounds like what it is, five musician friends enjoying playing together--in this case playing great, at times excellent songs. Listen close each man takes his turn in the foreground, then steps back, serving the songs and the listener in fine equal measure. Feel Good Together is an invitation to party you'll be glad you went to over and over again!

Genre: Rock

Drummer is the brainchild of Black Keys skinsman Patrick Carney, who envisioned starting a band with several of his fellow percussionists in February 2009 -- but with none of them playing drums. While his bandmate in the Keys, Dan Auerbach, was on tour, Carney took the opportunity to play with drummers from other Ohio bands, including Jamie Stillman (of Teeth of the Hydra and Harriet the Spy) on guitar, Jon Finley (of Party of Helicopters) on guitars and vocals, and Stephen Clements (of Houseguest)...
