Album Review

The Regrettes cut Feel Your Feelings Fool!, their 2017 debut, just a few months after the band's formation, bashing it out in a few quick sessions. Maybe that's why Feel Your Feelings Fool! seems so urgent: it gallops forward at a breakneck pace, the music recorded not long after it was written. Energy alone can make for a good album but, fortunately for the Regrettes, they're led by Lydia Night, who has a way with a hook and a knack for song construction. Night relies on certain classic pop tropes — girl group choruses pepper the album, she celebrates garagey riffs, and "Picture Perfect" slides into a Salt-N-Pepa tribute — and this fondness for old-fashioned songwriting gives Feel Your Feelings Fool! a sturdy understructure upon which the Regrettes thread feminism, sneering angst, and ecstasy. All these intertwined emotions give the album an emotional punch that complements its musical rush, a confluence of nervy energy that could easily be interpreted as a reflection of the Regrettes' youth. Perhaps the quartet members are all in their teens but they're preternaturally gifted as musicians, so Feel Your Feelings Fool! offers the best of both worlds: craft that endures combined with boundless excitement.

Fantastic album!!!

This is probably my favorite release in January so far. Every track has an overall garage punk sound sprinkled in with a 50's/60's doo wop feel. Each track on here offers something new and fresh, and it is definitely worth a listen.

Fantastic Feminist Garage Punk

This is a solid debut album, and although I think it has a couple tracks too many, I can't blame them because the rest is great. You get this to the right audience and this band is gonna be big.

Fantastic debut

When I first heard this album, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. Subsequent listens bring me to like it even more. Lydia Night is a great songwriter. Been listening to her stuff since Pretty Little Demons. I recommend this album!

Genre: Alternative

Led by singer/songwriter Lydia Night, the Regrettes were all in their teens when they released their first singles in 2016. All three of these singles -- "A Living Human Girl," "Hey Now," and "Hot" -- show the Los Angeles-based quartet demonstrate a pop sense so keen, it could be called classicist if it weren't for the nervy, punky energy and teenage rebellion that keep this music fresh. Night formed the Regrettes with guitarist Genessa Gariano, bassist Sage Nicole, and drummer Maxx Morando in 2015....
