18 Songs, 55 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

For The Sheepdogs’ third studio album, the heralded Saskatoon-based swamp/garage rock quartet recruited bespectacled Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney to co-produce. Mixed by Tchad Blake (Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon, Elvis Costello), it’s an inspired coming-together of similarly spirited collaborators. The deluxe version of this self-titled release includes acoustic versions of two of the new numbers and a music video for the hypnotically charismatic “The Way It Is.”

Rebirth of classic

What a surprise find! These guys have old souls. Excellent guitars and harmonies on this album. All of these songs sound like covers of old tunes, but they're originals. They're carrying the torch for classic rock and ably so. I can hear hints of The Band, Allman Brothers, The Dead, and even The Black Keys at moments. The song Laid Back is infectious and i can't stop playing it. This is great music to drive to. It also reminds me of playing Grand Theft Auto San Andreas when driving around in the country and badlands.

My favorite songs are the swampier sounding songs and you can hear some of Patrick Carney's influence on this album. There's almost no filler on this album to boot! The only song i don't like is Never Gonna Get My Love. Javelina is also a little weak, but the rest is just amazing. I look forward to more from this band and hope to hear more on the level of Laid Back and the swampy Feeling Good.
