Yeah Yeah Yeahs' debut arrived like a cherry bomb thrown down a toilet, gleefully mangling alt-rock's plumbing just because it could. Borrowing bits of punk, dance, rock, and experimental, the songs sport a grimy swagger. "Rich" and "Y Control" are herky-jerky fuzz bombs, while "Date With the Night" throws in some chugging hardcore guitars to complement Karen O's depraved cackling. In the midst of all this chaos, there's "Maps," a shimmering ballad fit for the last dance at a zombie prom.

Discovered in the wake of the Strokes' popularity and the subsequent garage rock revival, New York's art punk trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are comprised of singer Karen O, guitarist Nicolas Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase.
