Intermission

Intermission

Back in 1997, Los Angeles beat maestro DJ Muggs assembled an a bicoastal dream team for his first compilation album, Soul Assassins Chapter 1. An immediate hit among heads everywhere, it featured members of Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, and KRS-One alongside Cali mainstays Dr. Dre and Cypress Hill. A follow-up hit the streets in 2000, but for whatever reason the masses largely slept on it. Undaunted, Muggs continued to produce collaboration albums with GZA, Sick Jacken, Planet Asia, and Ill Bill, among others, and also released his unique trip-hop-flavored solo joint Dust. Originally released in 2009, Intermission is essentially Soul Assassins Chapter 3; it finds him reuniting with some familiar friends while also reaching out to younger artists and sharing production duties with DJ Solo, G. Rocka, DJ Khalil, and his protégé Alchemist. Bun B and M1 kick things off with the distinctly Dirty South jam "Gangsta Sh*t," Philly favorites Reef the Lost Cauze and OuterSpace get busy on "Meet Your Maker," and extremist BK death rapper Necro does his thing on "Rep Yo Sh*t."
