iTunes Review

Buck 65 has never been your run-of-the-mill rapper. A white dude from rural Canada, he's been making music since 1990, has dropped a flabbergasting amount of material, recorded for hyper-obscure indie labels as well as multinational conglomerates, changed up his style from album to album and track to track, and has still managed to cultivate and maintain a dedicated fanbase who purchase every project and flock to his shows. On 20 Odd Years, he picks selections from a recent set of four vinyl/digital EPs, laying his raspy flow and far-reaching subject matter over production that ranges from straight-up boom bap (the opener "Superstars Don't Love") to acoustic, folksy, almost New Age-y jams ("Paper Airplane" with Jenn Grant). Guest appearances come from Nick Thorburn, Gord Downie, John Southworth, Marie-Pierre Arthur, and Olivia Ruiz, adding more depth to his sometimes one-dimensional vocal style. If there's one theme here, it's his sheer unpredictability and willingness to always try something new. Don't miss "Zombie Delight" and "BCC."

Never Dissapoints

Words Cannot describe the past 10 years listening to Buck 65. RIght there with Sage, the late Eyedea, anyone from the Anticon lable, Josh Martinez, the Shapeshifters and everyone else. Thanks for the great music

Always a little different, always great.

I've loved every Buck 65 album since Man Overboard. Some have been a little harder to adapt to than others, since he changes his style from album to album, sometimes drastically. This album is great on it's own merit, not just because I prelabel everything Buck 65 does as great. This album is soft and beautiful, funky and quirky, and addictively entertaining.

I hate to LOVE this album... but I DO!

What can I say about Buck that you probably don't already know? He's up to his usual self with his abstract beats, although not the beats of his early years that I truly miss. But yet, he still seems to amaze me in how he explores his eclectic nature with no regards to what the critics will say. Notable songs of the album are "Whispers of the waves", "paper airplanes", "cold steel drum", "who by fire", "she said yes" and "final approach." A must- hear for any true Buck 65 Fan. He is truly the most gifted product of underground hip-hop. See what the fuss is. You be the judge. oh and warning: if you are looking for commercial music, please hit the back button on your browser.

Years Active: '90s, '00s

Born in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Richard Terfry (aka Buck 65, Stinkin' Rich) spent the majority of his adolescence as a self-described b-boy. He eventually moved to Halifax in 1989, where he founded a seminal hip-hop show on local college radio. The program (dubbed "The Bassment") helped Terfry cement his status as Halifax's premier hip-hop head; inch by inch, artist collaborations, production duties, and club residencies soon followed. During this time, Terfry dabbled with mic duty, often to...
