I have listened to Stevie Wonder’s music all my life on the radio. I know all the hits forwards and backwards, yet I have never been a fan of Stevie Wonder. I have never seen him live except on television shows or music award show performances, I don’t own any of his albums, and never once bought anything Stevie Wonder-related. I have the utmost respect for his music and style and what he has accomplished, but his music has never meant anything to me – until now. Pete Huttlinger’s Fingerpicking Wonder: The Music of Stevie Wonder has shown me what Stevie Wonder is all about. I honestly never knew this music that I really cared so little about could sound so different, and yet so the same. Huttlinger’s inspiring guitar arrangements and careful tuning brought a new magic to these old classics. As Huttlinger writes in his liner notes, “I didn’t realize how deep his music was until years later when I listened as a player with a new set of ears.” As a non-musician myself, I can now credit Huttlinger with giving me MY new set of ears. He gives me a new perspective on the music he plays, from the timeless songs on his previous CDs to now with Fingerpicking Wonder. Guitar enthusiasts as well as the average listener like me who doesn’t understand the complexity of music like Fingerpicking Wonder will listen to this CD in awe of what Huttlinger has arranged out of Stevie Wonder’s popular melodies. On this album I am particularly drawn to “Overjoyed” and “Lately” because of the simple, beautiful melody and style, and of course “Superstition” is one of the most amazing arrangements on a solo guitar I have ever heard. Huttlinger previously recorded “Superstition” on his 2004 release The Santa Rita Connection. He rerecorded the song for Fingerpicking Wonder and it is even more vibrant the second time around. So now I’m kicking myself because I should have known better all those years ago that Stevie Wonder’s music really was worth some added effort on my part to get to know and get into deeper. I never did. I will now. It’s amazing what solo guitar can do to you when it’s done by one of the best fingerpickers/arrangers in the world.

It is a Finger Picking WONDER!!!!

I was gifted this album..I am a huge Stevie Wonder fan and I enjoy acoustic guitar music. When I first received it, I scratched my head and said, "Huh?" But let me tell you, it works!!! This album is awesome. Of course the guitar goes well with the slower tempoed songs such as "My Cherie Amour" and "Overjoyed", but it also really works with songs like "I Wish" and "Sir Duke". Get this album, you won't regret it!
