Still my favorite

I discovered Saint Etienne in 2003, around 14 years ago. While they were new to me at that time, they'd already been on the music scene for somewhere around a decade. I went on to collect more of their music, following their new releases and back catalog, but this album has always remained my favorite.

While they are consistent with making lovely pop gems, this album had an edginess that I have yet to hear in subsequent releases. Highlights for me include Amateur, Shower Scene, New Thing, and B92. The track Soft Like Me, which was the only single from the album that I was aware of, is also quite good. The title track and opening track are also pretty darn good.
The little segues make the album fun to listen to as a whole, but each track also stands well on its own. Anyways, as this was my gateway into the band, I would also recommend it to anyone else who is unfamiliar with the group. Sarah's voice is soothing, and against the electronics of Finisterre there is a lovely match made in heaven.
