Sophisticated

Sophisticated album. It reminds me of some ECM work, with a touch a European melancholy. Put this music on and let yourself go. I look forward to the "Second Duet"

Absolutely captivating!!

The union of the piano and the cello has given humanity some of its most beautiful music and this album is no exception. Here, this virtuosic duo of Rob Mullins and Jeness each demonstrate not only their technical prowess but their collective ability to improvise compositionally, for these pieces were largely created on the spot (as is disclosed on Mr. Mullins' website). This is a collection of exceptionally beautiful, truly emotive music. I highly recommend it!

A Masterful Collaboration of Piano & Cello

First Duet is a musical journey through the mind of a master. In this milestone work, Mullins extends his compositional range well beyond the Jazz genre where he established his renown. The music is bold and provocative, with a cinematic mystique and highly pronounced classical tones. Angels in Flight is a particularly haunting piece and a bright showcase of collaborator and cellist, Jeness, whose powerful performances are featured on every track. I highly recommend this must-have album for anyone who appreciates innovative music.
