EDITORS’ NOTES

This is from Big Noble, a project between Interpol’s Daniel Kessler and sound designer Joseph Fraioli, who has released 10 albums under the alias Datach’i. This digital-only release focuses on ambient pieces intended to be played on headphones as listeners go about their day. “Field recordings” from NYC accentuate the overheard sense of the music. After having collaborated on film music, the duo recorded First Light mostly in Kessler’s living room with portable microphones and recorders. Kessler improvised guitar pieces. Fraioli manipulated them with modular synths and boutique effect units, adding sounds recorded during trips to Kessler’s apartment.
